We are getting a lot of calls from contractors working on aggregates sites recently asking us what the MP Connect is and how they can get the MP Connect card and MP Connect app. We know that a lot of UK aggregates sites are mandating MP Connect as a site entry requirement. So we’ve put together some information here to help answer some questions.
This information only applies for contractors who are working on UK aggregates sites.
What is MP Connect?
It is a secure online system that stores and verifies contractor training documentation. It helps aggregate sites across the UK assess whether contractors have the required valid training to safely access and work on site.
This is done via an MP Connect card and MP Connect app. The app includes a QR code that can be scanned for site entry and a geo-fenced Check Me In feature. Direct links to eLearning inductions can be sent to contractors from the site e.g. Holcim or Tarmac. Site staff can also check verified, job-related documents via card scanners e.g. they can check your SPA/MPQC Minerals Sector Safety Passport.
As of November 2025; Tarmac, Holcim UK, Cemex UK Operations, Heidelberg Materials UK and Breedon sites are all using the MP Connect scheme.
Is the MP Connect card the same as the SPA/MPQC Minerals Sector Safety Passport or the CSCS Card?
No – they are not the same thing. Having one of these (in date) SPA/MPQC or CSCS cards is a minimum requirement for contractor access to site. A contractor will need one of these cards (or an equivalent card for their relevant environment/job) to be able to get an MP Connect card. Whether it is the SPA, the CSCS or even an EPIC card that a contractor needs depends upon their role and the site rules.
If you do need the SPA/MPQC Minerals Sector Safety Passport – also known as the SPA/MPQC Quarry Safety Passport, we run these weekly at GSS Training so feel free to contact us on enquiries@gsstraining.co.uk or 0161 926 9510. Our upcoming course dates can be found on our website www.gsstraining.co.uk.
Which sites require me to have the MP Connect?
If you are performing operational, site-based activities, you may need the MP Connect card. If you are not doing physical work on site – so if you are just delivering to site or going for a meeting, you may not need one. It depends on the site – as of November 2025; Tarmac, Holcim UK, Cemex UK Operations, Heidelberg Materials UK and Breedon sites are all using the MP Connect scheme.
We would always recommend that you ask the site that you will be working on what they require to allow you access to their site.
How do I register my company for MP Connect?
You’ll need to do this directly with MP Connect themselves.
- Visit www.mpconnect.co.uk
- Click the black button labelled “Contractors – Company Administrator.”
- On the registration page, select: “Someone who wants to set up contractor admin access.”
- Complete the registration form
- You’ll receive a confirmation email
- Contact MP Connect to confirm your status as administrator. Once confirmed, you’ll be granted access to begin uploading contractor details
Who should register as the Company Administrator?
Only the Company Administrator should complete the registration process on behalf of your organisation. This person will be responsible for:
- Uploading and maintaining all employee training documents
- Managing card subscriptions and renewals
- Receiving notifications about document expiry or validation issues
MP Connect recommend limiting this to one or two administrators per company to:
- Ensure efficient communication
- Facilitate quick support
- Ensure updates reach the correct individuals
The administrator role is key to maintaining accurate and compliant records within MP connect.
Can I register for MP Connect if I’m an individual contractor not associated with a company?
Absolutely. Again, you’ll need to do this directly with MP Connect yourself.
You’d follow the same 6 steps as above except for step 3, on the registration page, instead of selecting “someone who wants to set up contractor admin access” you can choose either that you are a “contractor” or a “driver”.
What documents are required for each contractor?
The following will need to be uploaded for each contractor:
- Passport-style Photo (JPEG) – A recent, clear head and shoulders shot
- Valid ID – Driver’s licence or passport (confidential, auto-deleted after verification)
- National Insurance Number – For validation; not visible to site staff
- Safety Passport – Whichever is required for the contractor’s relevant role/working environment – e.g. SPA Quarry Safety Passport, EPIC Card or CSCS card
- Relevant Training Certificates – only training from recognised awarding bodies or training providers will be verified (internal training will not be verified and each document must be uploaded separately)
How much is an MP Connect card?
MP Connect currently charge £30 + VAT per person annually (correct as of November 2025)
